Recently, a new movie was released in theaters—The Wild Robot!
The Wild Robot, based on the bestselling children’s book by Peter Brown, offers a refreshing and heartfelt narrative that explores themes of survival, identity, and the bond between nature and technology. Roz is a robot who wakes up in the wilderness after a shipwreck, losing her memory of her past and her ability to learn or adapt. She must learn to survive in an unfamiliar environment. Over time, she meets a young duckling named Bright Bill, and the two grow close after a sad accident.
I went to see the movie while visiting my grandparents in Southern California. I went with my two little brothers, as well as my grandma and grandpa. We all got popcorn, candy, and drinks, then found our seats.
The movie was heartfelt but also had plenty of humor that kept the mood from becoming too heavy. It was truly one of those movies that works for everyone in the family.
The whole movie had a warm, happy vibe as Roz tried her best to fit into the wild, still unsure of where she actually belonged, until later in the story. At first, she struggled to understand the animals and even how to survive in her new environment. But as the movie continued, Roz gradually learned to communicate with the animals, no matter how different they were. Over time, she learned to live side by side with the animals and began to care for Bright Bill, the young duckling she adopts, with help from my personal favorite character, Fink.
Fink was a fox who had originally tried to eat Bright Bill when he was still in his egg. But once Fink saw how Roz was trying to care for Bright Bill as her own, he wanted to help. This made their relationship stronger, and they all practically became a family.
The ending was very sweet, too. I don’t want to spoil too much, but it showed how much Bright Bill and Roz’s relationship had grown since they first met. They had a fight, and now Bright Bill had to fly south for the winter, leaving Roz to decide if she would stay in the forest or go to the place where she was created.
We all left the theater that day in very happy moods. My grandparents both enjoyed the movie, and my little brothers said they did as well— or maybe it was just the candy and popcorn!
Overall, in my opinion, The Wild Robot was definitely worth watching, and you should definitely bring your family to see it!
