There are countless genres of music around the world, and if you’re looking for something new to listen to, here are a few recommendations. If you’ve listened to Epic: The Musical, you may be familiar with Teagen Earely, who voices Athena. If you enjoy her work, you should check out her solo music as well. For those who appreciate music based on real-life experiences, The Mother (chronologically released on the TE MO channel) is a great option. If you enjoy music with compelling stories and singing competitions, Alien Stage by VIVINOS is a fantastic pick. However, if historical musicals are more your style, then Six: The Musical is definitely worth a listen.
The MOTHER Chronology/EP
The first album I’ll discuss is The MOTHER Chronology/EP. This album tells the story of healing and self-discovery, with a focus on themes of healthcare mistreatment. The story centers around a woman named Te Mo, who is told by a doctor that she won’t be able to have children, a statement delivered without compassion. As the songs unfold, Te Mo grapples with her inability to fulfill the societal expectation of motherhood and struggles to find her true identity beyond that role.
Alien Stage
Next up is Alien Stage, a collection of songs that takes place in a world where aliens have conquered Earth and keep humans as pets. Humans with musical talent are forced to compete in deadly singing competitions. The stakes are high: the losers die, while the winners move on to the next round. The main characters are Mizi, Sua, Till, and Ivan, and the series also explores LGBTQ+ relationships, adding depth to its narrative.
Six: The Musical
Finally, there’s Six: The Musical, which tells the stories of the six wives of one of England’s most famous kings, Henry VIII. Each song focuses on a different wife, giving them a voice and telling their side of the story. The six wives featured in the musical are: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr. Six is a vibrant, energetic musical that gives a modern spin to these historical figures.
