When it comes to studying, it isn’t always the easiest. You may get distracted easily or just can’t find the motivation to do it. Most of the time, you’re dreading it because all you want to do is have time for yourself after a long day at school. Many students deal with this daily, so here are some effective ways to help you get back on track.
Most of these aren’t mine! They are all found on a few websites! (usa.edu, vu.edu.au, collegevine.com)
Method #1: “Set the stage”
Before you start, grab yourself a snack and some water to drink, turn on some music in the background, and get rid of any distractions, like your phone.
Method #2: Space out your studying
“One of the most effective ways of studying is to carve space out between sessions. If you break up your study load over several days, you’ll retain information far more readily than if you crammed it into your head during one long session. This can help deeply ingrain information, letting it marinate and allowing you to retain it for the long term. You’ll find you achieve much better results for it.”
Method #3: Don’t cram
“It might be tempting to leave all your studying for that big exam up until the last minute, but research suggests that cramming does not improve longer term learning.”
Method #4: Quizlet
Using Quizlet can help you so much. You can just sign in and search for anything you are studying about, and most likely you will find what you need.
Method #5: Review quizzes
“Also, review your quizzes to help you for the test, especially the questions you missed. A lot of my teachers put the frequently missed quiz questions on the test or similar questions like them.”
Method #6: Study before bed
“Also, study before bed. I found it works for me when I study right before I get to bed because I can “sleep on” the subject. It may sound weird, but it is actually proven to help solve the problem and strengthen your memory.”
Method #7: Reward yourself
From my experience, studying will become way more fun when I have something waiting for me at the end. This could also help with your motivation to actually get started. You could tell yourself things like, “I don’t get my phone until I finish studying this section,” or anything like that.
