When most people think of education, they often picture a teacher standing in front of a classroom, delivering a lesson to students. However, there are countless other roles throughout education that don’t always get the attention they deserve. Developing interaction and good communication skills is very important for students to succeed which is what speech therapists do. Speech therapists give students a chance to reach their full potential in communication, but the teacher who teaches it determines if it is fun or not. Ms. Clark effectively enhances students’ speech in a fun, reliable way, but after 17 years of creating a positive environment for students she is ready to continue the next chapter of her life.
Being a speech therapist is more than just a job, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see students improve their communication skills. Clark shares, “Being able to help kids develop communication skills, support them, and assist their families has been really rewarding.”
Ms. Clark explains, “I knew that I wanted to work with kids, and I wanted to do something that is helping them, and I’ve always liked education, but I also loved anatomy and science and things like that, so that tied everything together.” By combining their love for teaching and interest in science, Clark found a way to help kids and do something they enjoy, allowing Clark to make a real impact on students, many from elementary to middle school.
Ms. Clark, a favorite speech therapist, has grown many students’ communication skills in a fun way, and eighth grade student, Josh Sisneros explains his experience with Ms. Clark, “Ms. Clark was an amazing speech teacher, she helped a lot with elementary and middle school. She was a good person to talk to for speech learning and everything. She improved a lot of my language arts and math skills. I had her for a total of eight years from when I moved to Lincoln California. She is very good with teamwork for children. She helps a lot of people with disabilities like stuttering, shyness, and speech, and likes to make people happy.”
Ms. Clark was an excellent teacher to those who needed to improve communication skills, and always connected with staff members and students she worked with.
