The Placer County Portuguese Holy Ghost Festa is coming up soon, running from May 23 to May 25. “McBean Park is getting ready for the Festa. This is a celebration of Portuguese heritage and culture.” A Festa is both a festival and a religious event that dates back over 700 years, honoring Queen Isabel of Portugal, who was known for her generosity to the poor during a great famine.
Many attendees and local residents can trace their Portuguese roots to the Azores, where Festas are still a strong cultural tradition. This year’s Festa will feature a carnival, beer garden, dance, parades, and traditional food.
Event Schedule:
Thursday, May 22: Carnival rides open from 5 PM to 10 PM
Friday, May 23: Carnival rides run from 5 PM to 12 AM
Saturday, May 24: Carnival rides from 12 PM to 12 AM, a parade at 8 PM, and a dance from 9 PM to 1 AM
Sunday, May 25: Mass at 10 AM, parade at 11 AM, and carnival rides from 1 PM to 10 PM
I’m very excited to see all the new rides and everyone coming together to celebrate this town tradition. Many locals are also thrilled to reconnect with their heritage and enjoy a weekend filled with music, culture, and delicious food. Personally, I’m most looking forward to experiencing the new rides and seeing the community unite to keep this beautiful tradition alive.
In conclusion, the Placer County Holy Ghost Festa is more than just a fun weekend—it’s a celebration of identity, history, and the enduring spirit of a proud community. Whether you’re of Portuguese descent or simply looking for a fun and meaningful experience, this event is a wonderful opportunity to be part of something truly special.
