We’ve had many different librarians in the past, and our former librarian, Mrs. Brown, became a teacher. This left the school with the task of hiring someone new for the position. The transition was strange because Mrs. Brown had been such a great librarian, so the school wanted to find another person who could carry on her legacy.
GEMS found that person in our new librarian, Mrs. Purcha, and we truly believe she will be an outstanding fit for our school. From the first day students met her, they could tell she was kind and would be a great role model for everyone at GEMS.
Our school is excited to welcome Mrs. Purcha. She is friendly, helpful, and passionate about books. She is also eager to build on the strong community that Mrs. Brown created, making sure students have a library they enjoy—a place where they can feel comfortable while learning or reading.
Mrs. Fernandez shared her vision for the library: “For it to be a safe place and for kids to get library materials or get help from the librarian to determine what resources they might need. A space so kids can go there for studying, school work, and quiet activities during lunch.”
The goal is for the library to continue being a safe and positive space while also growing into an even stronger, more inclusive community. Many students already see the library as a place where they can escape during lunch to study, read, or complete homework in peace.
With her warm and welcoming personality, Mrs. Purcha will help foster this inclusive atmosphere.
Mrs. Fernandez added, “Mrs. Purcha has experience working at the high school, so she knows how to help students find resources and meet their library needs. She can support students’ educational goals.”
Our school firmly believes Mrs. Purcha will be a fantastic addition to the GEMS community, and we are confident she will not only meet but exceed the needs of our students.
