Did you know that many students visit the school nurse just to get ice? Almost every time, the students misuse it by throwing it, drinking it, or eating it. It’s time for the nurse and the school to take action about this.
Misusing ice causes a lot of problems, from constant restocking to creating complete messes around the school campus. We’ve been misusing ice so much that we have even exceeded the amount Lincoln High School requested.
Misusing ice doesn’t just affect the nurse; it also impacts classrooms and hallways. Some teachers have even banned ice in their classrooms because of how bad it has gotten.
Sure, some people might argue about limiting ice because not everyone misuses it, but this problem mainly exists because of how people misuse it.
One student explains how the ice chaos is affecting their class and what they think could fix it: “I think it would be better if students only get ice during passing periods and lunch. Why would you need ice in the middle of class unless it’s P.E.? Ice also makes puddles on people’s desks, and sometimes, it even gets thrown onto people’s heads!”
An easy way to prevent ice misuse is to use it only for cuts, sore muscles, or headaches/fevers. Ice is supposed to heal injuries and cool things down—not be played with like a toy.
