Passing periods are too short! If you’re a student and you’re always late to class, then you’re in luck! We’ll dive into why we should extend the passing periods and how we can make them better, especially since we’re making 1st Street a part of the school.
The school is expanding to 1st Street, which means more and more people are going to be tardy. If we want to expand the school, then we definitely have to make the bell schedule longer. Otherwise, students will definitely be late. If teachers want students to get to class on time, then we have to extend the bell schedule so students have more time to walk to class. Some students have PE and then have to walk across campus to get to their next class. Granite Oaks Middle’s passing period is 6 minutes, which is just until the tardy bell rings. Spring View Middle gets a break in the middle of their classes and has two lunches. Twelve Bridges Middle’s passing period is also 6 minutes long. Ours is 5 minutes.
Even though theirs is only a minute longer, it still isn’t fair that we have less time than all the other middle schools. Why do we get only 5 minutes while they have 6 minutes, a break, and two lunches? That really isn’t fair. If we could extend the passing periods to 6 minutes or even longer, then fewer kids would be tardy, most kids would be there for the first part of class, and students wouldn’t have as much missing work.
If we’re going to expand and make 1st Street a part of the middle school, then we have to expand the passing periods too. And consider this: if we expand, more kids from different schools or districts will be coming here because it’s bigger. If there are more kids and the passing periods are still short, then it will be very hard to get to class on time.
So, in conclusion, we have to make the passing periods longer if we’re going to expand. It would help kids get to class on time, improve their grades, and make it easier for all those new kids coming in. It’s just something to think about.
