Ingredients: Clean glass jar/empty lantern, gauze bandages, fake red and blue blood(either store bought or DIY), scissors, glue, battery operated candle, and black paper.
Optional: Fake halloween spiders, fingers, etc.
- Wrap the Jar with Gauze: Loosely wrap the gauze bandages around the glass jar. For a “mummy” effect, wrap it unevenly, leaving some tears and frayed edges. Secure the gauze with a dab of glue.
- Add Fake Blood: Apply the fake blood to the gauze. You can use a spray bottle for a fine mist or a paintbrush for thicker, more concentrated drips. For a more realistic and gruesome effect, apply extra blood around the top of the lantern and allow it to drip down the sides.
- Make DIY Fake Blood: For a homemade version, mix red food coloring with corn syrup to get a thicker, blood-like consistency in a bowl. Add a single drop of blue food coloring to darken it and make it more realistic.
- Create Spooky Details:Glue on plastic spiders to make it look like they are crawling over the bloody gauze. You can also cut scary shapes like silhouettes of bats or haunted houses from black paper and stick them to the inside of the jar for a “shadow jar” effect.
- Let it dry: Allow the fake blood and glue to dry completely before handling or displaying the lantern.
- Add a light source: Place a battery-operated tea light or candle inside the jar. Do not use a real flame with gauze or paper, as it is a fire hazard. The light shining through the bloody gauze will create an eerie glow.
