This year Five Star had an update on how long you must use the restroom. Last year it was about seven minutes to go to the bathroom, and this school year, the time limit is now only 4 minutes! Glen Edwards Middle School students have a problem with the new change.
Almost every time someone in my class signs out to the bathroom, and we come back, our time is well over-expired. It takes about two minutes to walk to the restroom, and actually to go to the bathroom, is another thirty to forty seconds. After that, we have to wash our hands for like thirty seconds to make sure all the germs are off. That’s already four minutes, and I still have to walk back to class. Does the school expect us to run to the bathroom? Well, we can’t because the supervisors yell at everyone who does run.
When students get an expired time limit, some teachers will take away their restroom privileges for a certain amount of days. Still, if it continues, the teachers take away the students’ bathroom privileges for good. This is understandable because some kids like to keep using the bathroom during class and get expired every time. But what I think is not understandable is the fact that students only have four minutes.
Jaelyn Jones is an eighth grader, and this is what she has to say about the new bathroom time limit, “I believe that the time limit is not enough, and its unfair. Some children need more time in the bathroom to walk there, and to take care of what they need to do.“
I asked Celine about this complication and how she feels about it, “It’s way too short and it takes too long to walk to the bathroom, use the restroom, and walk back to class before the time is over.”
Even though many students are upset with this, there’s a reason why the bathroom limit is only four minutes. Some students like to mess around and skip class and if we extend the time limit this will lead to more students messing around and abusing the restroom time.
As you can see, there are many reasons why the time is only four minutes and not longer. Even though there are many upset students, the school has a good reason for this.
