Middle schools should have a snack break in addition to lunch to help students maintain their energy levels, improve focus, and promote better overall health throughout the school day.
During the school day, students in different grades have varying lunch times, which means they may still feel hungry before their next meal. A snack break would help address this issue, and it could also give teachers more time to work on grading or lesson plans.
I believe that a snack break, ideally between every two class periods with a 15-minute duration, would help students stay focused, even those who might struggle to understand everything they are learning. It could have a positive impact, particularly for students who don’t get a chance to eat breakfast if they have to leave home early or take the bus.
I interviewed Brooklynn Smith to get her perspective on the idea, and here are some of her thoughts:
