In the 6th-grade Egypt project, students will embark on a journey through time to uncover the fascinating history of ancient Egypt. They will explore its remarkable contributions to mathematics, medicine, and literature, as well as the enduring influence of its religious beliefs and art. By examining the daily lives of the Egyptians, their social hierarchy, and their lasting legacy, students hope to gain a deeper understanding of how this ancient civilization shaped the course of history.
I asked Mrs. White how the project is going. She said, “Egypt is a unit where many students show a lot of interest in the material. Egypt has such a rich history, so it’s easy for students to come up with project ideas. This will be my fifth year having my students participate in this project. Some students really think outside the box and add elements to their projects that haven’t been done before. For example, I’ve had students create Egyptian makeup, canopic jars, masks, and more. I think looking at the detailed artifacts the Egyptians created really shows just how rich their history was.”
I interviewed Brooklyn Smith, who said, “I’m in Mrs. White’s class, and I chose to make a pyramid for my project. What this project means to Egypt is that the pyramids were huge tombs built for pharaohs to help them reach the afterlife. They also symbolized the pharaoh’s power and their journey to eternity. The most interesting thing I’ve learned from this project is that the Nile River is the longest river in the world. This has been my favorite project so far this year.”
So many students are enjoying this project, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations when they’re finished!
