The 7th grade basketball team recently claimed the division championship in an exciting game against Creekview, with a final score of 48-46. It was a thrilling, close match, and Tony Russo emerged as a standout player, hitting a game-winning three-pointer. “I just had a lot of confidence in that shot, and it went in,” Russo reflected after the game.
Both teams played exceptionally well, and despite the relatively small crowd, the energy in the gym was palpable. Even the players commented on the intensity of the atmosphere, with many agreeing that it felt like a much bigger event.
As a result of their victory, the 7th grade team will be honored with a “Co-League Champions” banner that will be displayed in the gym.
Looking ahead, the team faces a tough opponent in Granite Oaks. “They play a lot of press defense,” said Russo. “Our goal is to break through that press. It’s difficult, and we’ll need to rely on solid passing and good teamwork, which takes a lot of pre-planning.”
The team is proud of their performance this season. “It’s our first year playing school basketball,” Russo noted. For many of the players, the experience of competing at this level has been both challenging and rewarding, especially considering the competitiveness of the league.
In their previous game, which was crucial for qualifying for the division championship, the team faced Eich and secured a decisive victory, winning 53-25.
In conclusion, regardless of the outcome of their upcoming game against Granite Oaks, this has been a remarkable season for the Glen Edwards 7th grade basketball team. Winning the division title is a significant accomplishment, and the team has proven themselves to be a formidable force in the league.
