The school calendar has changed a bit for the next school year. Next year, we get a week off in February. This sudden change is exciting, but some other things have changed too. This year, we get Spring Break as usual in April, but we also get the next Monday off. Next spring break, we won’t get that Monday off. In October, we had the 11th and the 14th off for Halloween. In the following school year, we will only get the 10th off. In March, we get the 17th off, but next March, school will be in session. What the school did was take those days and make them a week off in February next year.
I asked some people for their opinions about this change. I interviewed Ms. Valenzuela, one of the school’s counselors in room D5, about next year’s school calendar. She doesn’t like the change. Since we get a week off in February, Valenzuela thinks it might be hard for parents to supervise their kids during that time.
Valenzuela also feels that it’s very random to get a week off in February. Since we lose some random days off, she likes the idea of going to school regularly, but she wishes we still had those random days off because the school has been used to it for so long. She also thinks that a lot of students and teachers might get sick. When you get a week off, you may travel, and that means there’s a chance of students and teachers getting sick over the break. When they return, they might accidentally spread the sickness throughout the campus. Even though Valenzuela is not familiar with or fond of this new change, she thinks we should stick with the new schedule because it might be a good change for students and teachers.
I also interviewed Charlotte Noel. Noel likes the new calendar schedule because we get more days off in February. She also thinks it’s a good time to catch up on schoolwork during the long break.
One thing that Noel doesn’t like about the change is that we don’t get the 11th and the 14th off too. Noel believes we should keep the week off in February but also add more days off. She thinks this could be a great opportunity for both students and teachers.
