This out-of-the-ordinary McDonald’s item was first released in 1981 and lasted until 2004. So, why is it back after 19 years? Is this sandwich really good enough to make a return to the menu? Maybe, or maybe not.
I walked into my local McDonald’s, and as always, it was nice and welcoming. I went to the kiosk and ordered the McRib with a Dr Pepper. The wait time wasn’t long at all, only about 7 minutes. When I got my order, I sat down at a table. Upon opening the wrapper, I saw a sesame bun on top of what appeared to be ribs, all slathered in BBQ sauce, with onions and pickles.
At first glance, it didn’t look very appetizing, but when I took my first bite, I was both impressed and disappointed. The pork wasn’t actually a rack of ribs, but rather a pork patty! The texture of the patty felt off and unappealing. However, the BBQ sauce had an interesting and somewhat tasty flavor, although I feel that kind of sauce might be better suited for fries than for a sandwich. On the other hand, the bun was amazing—it was light, fluffy, and had a slight sweetness that made each bite enjoyable.
Overall, my experience was an 8/10. The sandwich itself was a 5/10. My favorite parts were the bun and the BBQ sauce. This food item is great for people who love BBQ ribs, as it somewhat evokes the feeling of a real rib rack. Would you try this surprisingly decent McDonald’s meal?
