What is happening to all of the different big streaming platforms?
Not a lot of people have all of the streaming services, but now that they are raising their prices, it’s going to make it even harder for some people to afford them. In 2012, Netflix’s price was $7.99, and now if you get the basic plan, it’s $11.99, and the premium plan is $19.99 per month. Disney+ used to cost $6.99 in 2012, but now it costs $7.99 with ads, and without ads, it’s $10.99 per month. This shows that prices have gone up since 2012.
I think that the more popular the streaming apps get, the greedier they become, wanting to make more money. The prices for Netflix will keep rising when new movies and shows are released. For example, when Stranger Things season five comes out, a lot of people will have to pay even more for Netflix. It’s expected that the price will go up from $15.49 to $17.99 when season five of Stranger Things is released. This shows that as more shows and movies are added, the prices for all the streaming apps keep going up. I think streaming services are being unfair to people who can’t afford them because they miss out on good shows, but the apps are so focused on making money that it seems like they don’t care about this. They just want to make as much money as possible.
But not everything about streaming apps is bad—there are some good things, too. Netflix, for example, is trying to reduce its carbon footprint by using eco-friendly practices. Many apps let you download content to your phone or computer, so you can watch it anywhere if you have a subscription. Plus, people who pay for the premium version of an app get no ads and can watch a bigger variety of shows and movies. All of the streaming apps also offer different genres for people to choose from. Some apps even show sports, like Netflix, which hosts two different games on Christmas.
So, while many streaming apps are greedy, they still do some good things, too.
