This school year, and in many past years, students have been causing problems in the bathrooms by not cleaning up, which makes janitors’ jobs more stressful. This also leads to students having fewer bathroom privileges.
When students cause messes, it affects not only them but everyone, because bathrooms end up being closed off, forcing students to take longer walks to other bathrooms. Although students only get 4 minutes, having bathrooms closed makes it harder to be back in class before the timer goes off.
To help this situation, we should have more bathroom monitors instead of closing restrooms. Having more staff to keep kids under control will ensure that those who deserve consequences get them, while students who aren’t causing issues keep their privileges.
After talking to Isabel Crawford, I asked her, “Do you think the current bathroom rules are fair? Why or why not?” She replied, “There should be more students allowed in the bathroom, and we should get more time on five star.” Another question I asked was, “Why do you think the bathrooms are closed so often?” She said, “I think the bathrooms are closed so often because of students vandalizing and doing things they shouldn’t.”
Finally, I asked, “If you could tell the school administrators one thing about the bathroom situation, what would it be?” She told us, “To leave them open more often and give us more time on five star.”
Knowing one of our Glen Edwards students’ opinions, we now understand what she thinks about the situation and what we can all do as a community to keep the bathrooms clean so staff can keep them open.
After reading this, you should hopefully choose to make respectful choices so everyone can use all the bathrooms.
