As the number of social media platforms grows, so too does the debate about their influence on our lives and society.
Social media is a very productive way for communication, with uploading your favorite photos and sharing with other people, with family and friends that live far away. But the bad impact of social media is giving out false information such as scams, false ads, fake messages/calls, ect.
As of recently, Pinterest was seen as the safest social media platform in the US last year. Meanwhile, Facebook was where the lowest percentage of users felt safe, down to just 26% in 2022. For apps like this, it’s best to not give out personal information, such as avoiding posting names, phone numbers, addresses, school, and work locations.
The addictive nature of social media can also lead to decreased productivity and fewer real-life interactions, as people often find themselves scrolling mindlessly rather than engaging with those around them. Changing these advantages and downsides requires more engagement and mindfulness of social media’s potential while taking fewer risks.
In my opinion, I think social isn’t all bad, but it does have many bad qualities. I love how it’s easy to communicate, but apps that you can download aren’t always good for mental health and just good for your life properties.
I asked Madeline Shrum to see another side of opinion, and she said, ”Social media is good for me because I can stay connected with my friends and also learn about things like sports; it affects me by showing me the opportunities around me. The disadvantages of social media are that it can affect people mentally and sometimes isn’t safe.”.
In conclusion, as you read, social media has its many pros and cons.
