On May 5th, McDonald’s officially released a new menu item: McCrispy Chicken Tenders. This marks the first permanent menu addition since 2021. While chicken tenders aren’t entirely new to McDonald’s, they originally appeared in 2002 under the name Chicken Selects, which were later discontinued in 2013.
Unfortunately, the McCrispy Chicken Tenders we received didn’t live up to the advertisement. Instead of being crispy and well-seasoned, they were dry and bland. There was little to no crunch, which is disappointing considering the name “McCrispy” implies a crispy texture.
The price starts at $5.29 for a three-piece and $5.99 for a four-piece, which isn’t much cheaper than tenders at a sit-down restaurant—especially once you add fries and a drink.
The tenders arrived barely warm, bordering on cold, and clearly tasted premade. Without sauce, the chicken had almost no flavor. The advertising described them as “heavenly flavored” with “excellent crisp,” which wasn’t our experience at all.
That said, the tenders were surprisingly filling. After just one, we were already starting to feel full, which was unexpected given our usual appetites. You likely won’t need more than three or four to feel satisfied.
Overall, we give the McCrispy Chicken Tenders a 6 out of 10. While they were filling, they lacked the flavor and texture we were hoping for. In our opinion, you’re better off sticking with McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets, which offer a more flavorful and crunchy experience.
