Mrs. Pallas has one of the most important jobs at our school, even if it often goes unnoticed. As a yard duty supervisor, she is responsible for keeping everything running smoothly during lunch and passing periods. While students are enjoying their time outside, she is working to keep the campus clean, safe, and organized.
One of Mrs. Pallas’s main responsibilities is maintaining order around campus. “I put posters back up when they fall down and change bathroom supplies such as toilet paper and soap,” she explains. These tasks may seem small, but they make a big difference in how the school looks and functions. If something is broken or missing, she is often the one who takes care of it.
Her role also involves supervising students and making sure they are where they are supposed to be. She mentions that “finding students in classes that they’re not supposed to be in” is one of the challenges she faces. When students wander off or break rules, she helps guide them back on track.
Another challenge she deals with is cleaning up after students. “Students could create more work for me by bringing food out of the Spirit Center and making a mess,” she says. When there is no custodian available, she is responsible for cleaning up and, if necessary, writing students up. This extra work could be avoided if students followed the rules.
Mrs. Pallas also hopes students will show more respect for the school environment. “If there was one thing I could change about how students treat the school, it is to leave things alone, such as the cones, and keep things clean.” Taking care of school property and cleaning up after themselves would make her job easier and improve the school for everyone.
Even though her work often happens behind the scenes, Mrs. Pallas plays a key role in keeping the school running smoothly. She is constantly moving, making sure everything stays safe, clean, and organized. The next time you are outside during lunch or passing period, take a moment to appreciate the effort she puts in every day. A little respect can go a long way.
