Have you ever heard of the Soccer Club at GEMS? It’s a great way to get involved if you love and enjoy the sport. The club is run by one of the P.E. teachers here at GEMS, Mrs. Mullen. Here are some key details from the interview.
First, I reached out to Mrs. Mullen, the person in charge of the club. I asked, What is the Soccer Club? She responded, “Soccer Club is basically a club where kids can come out and play soccer and learn more about soccer. If there are days where we can’t play, we’ll come back to the room and maybe watch some highlights, talk about our favorite players and teams, and just enjoy the sport. It’s for anyone that loves soccer.”
Many students have after-school plans but are still eager to join the Soccer Club. So, what time does the club meet? Mrs. Mullen explained, “The club’s gonna meet every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00.”
Several students were also curious about where the meetings take place. Mrs. Mullen shared, “We’re gonna start off meeting in Room A12, where we can drop off backpacks and stuff we don’t need. Then we’ll go out to the field or the blacktop, whichever one is open for us.”
I also asked what students need to do to join the Soccer Club. “All you need to do is fill out a permission slip that says you are able to participate in playing soccer after school. Turn that in, and anyone who does is more than welcome to play,” said Mrs. Mullen.
Next, I spoke with Ahmad Hatami, a member of the Soccer Club. Why did you decide to join? “I decided to join the club because it is a fun sport for after school,” Ahmad said.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the club? “What I like best about Soccer Club is when we play games because it is competitive, which makes it a fun sport,” Ahmad explained.
Lastly, why should other kids join? “Other kids should join because it is a fun after-school club that many soccer people would love to do,” Ahmad shared.
