Imagine running across a field during PE or a school sports game and worrying that the ground might not be safe. That concern is exactly why the school has started repairs on its field. Mrs. Fernandez says the work is important to make sure students can use the field safely and prevent injuries.
The need for repairs first came up while staff were preparing the field for the boys’ flag football season. “It was brought to my attention after we were trying to get the fields prepared for flag football,” said Mrs. Fernandez. “We realized it needed to be addressed sooner rather than later.”
Fixing the field now was also a matter of timing. The repairs are happening during a break between sports seasons, before the girls’ season starts. “It is happening now because it is an open time before the girls’ season begins,” Mrs. Fernandez explained. Doing the work now helps ensure that practices, games, and PE classes won’t be interrupted later.
Once the repairs are finished, the field should be safer and easier to maintain. “It should make the field in better condition for PE and athletics,” Mrs. Fernandez said. “It will also make it easier to take care of over time.” Students and staff alike are expected to benefit from the improvements.
Decisions about which repairs are most important are handled through the district maintenance team. Since this was a maintenance and safety issue, it was prioritized. At this time, no other areas of the school are expected to be closed during the repair work. “Not that I am aware of at this time,” Mrs. Fernandez said, “but the director of maintenance will keep me informed if anything changes.”
Students will be informed when the field is ready to use again through the PE department, which is currently the only group using the field. Most importantly, the repairs are expected to help prevent injuries in the future. “Yes, this should help with any field safety concerns,” Mrs. Fernandez confirmed.
With these updates, the school hopes the field will become a safer, more enjoyable space for students to use during PE and sports, giving everyone a better place to learn, play, and stay active.
