I went to see the new Super Mario’s Galaxy movie hoping for an exciting space adventure, and while it was fun in parts, it didn’t fully live up to me. I’d give it about 3 out of 5 stars.
First, the best thing about the movie is how it looks. The animation is bright and colorful. The different planets and space settings are really creative. Some scenes, especially the ones where Mario is jumping between planets or dealing with gravity, are really fun to watch.
However, the story is pretty basic. It follows a simple and predictable path. You can usually guess what will happen next. There aren’t many surprises, and it doesn’t take big risks. Mario is brave and determined like always, and Luigi is still the nervous/lovable brother, but neither of them really grows or changes much during the movie. It feels like we’ve seen these versions of the characters many times before.
Another issue is that some characters don’t get enough attention. A few side characters show up and seem interesting at first, but then they don’t really do much. It feels like they were added more for fans to recognize than to actually help the story. This makes parts of the movie feel a little shallow.
The humor is mixed. There are definitely some funny moments that made me laugh, especially if you already like Mario games. But other jokes don’t land as well and can feel a bit forced. Sometimes the movie tries too hard to be funny instead of letting the humor happen naturally.
The pacing is also uneven. The beginning starts strong and pulls you in, but the middle slows down quite a bit. It feels like the movie isn’t sure what it wants to focus on action, comedy, or emotional moments. Because of that, some scenes drag on longer than they should.
Even with these problems, the movie is still enjoyable. It’s a good choice for younger kids or fans who just want to see their favorite characters on an adventure in space. It’s not a bad movie at all, it just isn’t as amazing as it could have been.
In the end, Super Mario’s Galaxy movie is a fun and colorful experience, but it plays things too safe. If you go in expecting something good, entertaining, you’ll probably have a good time. Just don’t expect it to be something special.
