On December 20, 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King was released in theaters. The Lion King was basically Rafiki telling Kiara her grandfather, Mufasa’s backstory when he was younger and how he met Taka- who eventually becomes Scar. The film shows how their bond weakened as Taka’s jealousy and ambition grew, leading to the betrayal that would shape Scar into the villain we know in The Lion King.
I love all of The Lion King Movies, so I was really excited to watch this movie. Recently, the movie came out on Disney Plus, which is what I watched it on.
The movie moves really fast in the beginning. It doesn’t take long for the story to dive into action, and before you know it, Mufasa is caught in a flood and struggling to survive It just jumps quickly from one scene to the next. As the story went on, it eventually slowed down a bit, which made it more enjoyable for me.
I’m not gonna lie, I loved the voice acting for this movie. Im not sure what it was but Mufasa and Taka’s voices just made the movie a lot better. It’s also cool that towards the end, Taka’s voice changed a bit. I thought of it as another way of showing how Taka really changed, which eventually led up to him being called “Scar.”
The songs weren’t even that bad for a Disney movie, but since I’m not a big fan of musicals, they weren’t really my thing. Some of the songs were catchy and they fit the mood of the scenes. But I honestly wish there was less singing and more focus on the story. Obviously it was going to be a musical though since all Lion King movies are, but it wasn’t something I personally loved.
The most annoying part of the movie was whenever Timon and Pumbaa interrupted the story. I honestly just wanted to watch Mufasa the whole time. Their comedic personalities, while entertaining in the original Lion King movies, were just straight up irritating.
Overall, I recommend watching Mufasa: The Lion King. I feel like younger kids would enjoy this movie the most, just as they did with the old Lion King movies. It’s a good movie just because of the plot, and if you enjoy musicals, and personally I don’t, you will enjoy the movie even more. It was an adorable movie, but not the best movie I’ve ever watched.
I rate it 3.5 out of 5 paws.
