Some students use their phones at school to play games, chat with friends, or watch social media. Phones can be distracting in school. Also it can affect students’ focus. Students should be allowed to use their phones for academic purposes or emergencies but if they are using their phones for social media, games they should not be allowed to use it. Phones can change a student’s focus at school. For example when you’re paying attention and you see someone watching social media you lose your focus. A scientist said “ if you are focusing on something and you get interrupted, on average it will take twenty-three minutes for you to get back to the same state of focus.” So you will lose your focus. 

Phones can really affect the students. 8th grader Dominic M. said “Yes, because if there’s an upcoming test, we need to focus on the teacher instead of getting distracted by our phones. Instead of studying, some students were on their phones playing games.” “Rather than focusing on their studies, people are spending their time playing video games and it not only affects them academically but it drops their grade. 

Phone usage in school can negatively affect classroom behavior. For instance, someone is on their phone and someone else is going to be distracted by it. Another example is it will disturb the teacher’s lesson which will lead to other students not learning. The last example, phones can encourage students to be more distracted, making it harder for them to stay on task during class.
