Recently, there has been discussion, voting, and debate about whether or not First Street Elementary should combine with Glen Edwards Middle School. Now, the decision has been made—First Street School will officially merge with GEMS.
First Street was never meant to remain a school for this long, and it has finally been confirmed that it will become part of GEMS in 2028. With how quickly Lincoln is growing, this change will help create more space and opportunities for education.
Mr. McAdam shared his thoughts, saying, “My opinion is that right now middle schools are going to be getting more crowded, and we definitely need more space and a bigger campus to hold all of these kids.”
Overall, most people agree that this is a good idea and believe it will bring many benefits. One concern that has been mentioned is that walking from class to class could take longer. However, that could be addressed by extending the passing period or designating the new area for sixth-grade classes only.
Even though it will take time and effort to remodel and merge the two campuses, it seems like Lincoln could definitely benefit from this change. This expansion will be a major development for the Lincoln community and, as of now, appears to be a practical and positive decision.
