Students can now earn tickets for perfect attendance! Honestly, I love this idea because it encourages students to arrive to class on time and to be at school every day. It’s also nice that the school rewards them for having perfect attendance.
Usually during PAW, tickets are handed out to students who have perfect attendance. On that same day during lunch, you can turn in that ticket for a treat! This will be happening every month. Hopefully, the school continues this throughout the year and in the future.
Although, I wish they had better treats than Otter Pops because, to me, Otter Pops taste like watery sticks of ice with little to no flavor. I wish they would give out ice cream sandwiches instead.
Maybe this will encourage students to keep arriving to class on time and make an effort to come to school, but honestly, this wouldn’t encourage me to arrive at school every day and be on time to every class just to earn a watered-down Otter Pop.
Also, some students might miss school days due to being sick, traveling, appointments, etc. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to get that perfect attendance ticket. To be honest, I wouldn’t care either way because, like I said, I don’t mind missing out on getting an Otter Pop.
I think the school should allow students to save up tickets to get better prizes. For example, two tickets could get you a sticker, five tickets could get you a small fidget, and eight could get you a small treat.
On the other hand, this challenge can help students build good habits around timeliness on campus. In the end, students should be arriving to class on time and making an effort to come to school every day, whether there’s a perfect attendance challenge or not.
