Have you ever watched an indie animated movie or show before? If so, then you probably know how Disney and other huge companies tend to focus more on big-budget digital animation than indie animation. Today, I’m comparing the two to see which one is better and which one feels more successful. Also, a reminder: I created a wheel with both digital and indie animations, so please don’t assume I picked the worst options.

For indie animation, I picked Lackadaisy and ENA to go against Zootopia 2 and Onward.

Starting with Lackadaisy, I watched the pilot and everything was amazing. The script, the animation style, and the overall vibe were all so fire. The show focuses on the struggles of the Lackadaisy Speakeasy after the mysterious murder of its founder, Atlas May.

I give Lackadaisy a 5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy mystery, action, and a little dark humor, you should definitely check it out. Sadly, episode 2 is still in the works since Lackadaisy is a smaller indie animation company.

Next is ENA, which features a strange two-faced humanoid character exploring bizarre digital worlds with her friend, Moony. I think the series is really good because of the design, style, and script. Everything about it is unique and creative.

I give ENA a 5 out of 5 stars. If you’re interested in Weirdcore or Dreamcore, you should watch this series.

Now for the digital animation side. Zootopia 2 is a really good movie, but I personally find it a bit overrated, especially because of the main song “Zoo.” I like it, but I still think it gets a little too much hype. However, I did love the ending, especially when the truth about Gary and the Lynxley family is revealed. The message was strong: the truth always prevails no matter what.

I give Zootopia 2 a 4 out of 5 stars. If you love comedy and mystery, this movie is for you.

Finally, Onward was an amazing movie. I loved everything about it, especially the deeper meaning. The message really hit hard: even if you lose someone you love, they’ll always be with you in some way, even when they’re gone.

I give Onward a 4 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy fantasy and magic, I highly recommend it.

Overall, I think both indie and digital animation are great and special in their own ways.
