In the world of sodas, there’s always excitement when a new drink hits the shelves—or in this case, when an old one makes a comeback. Mr. Pibb, created by Coca‑Cola and originally released in 1972, returned to stores in December 2025, sparking curiosity among soda fans who wanted to see how this revived classic would hold up today. After giving it a try, I have to say it wasn’t all it was hyped up to be.
The first thing I noticed about Mr. Pibb was the weird taste. It tasted kinda flat. It reminded me a lot of cherry cough syrup, which isn’t exactly what I enjoy drinking. The cherry flavor is strong, but not in a good way, more like a medicinal taste that makes you want to reach for something else to wash it down. On top of that, Mr. Pibb felt less bubbly than most sodas, which made the overall drinking experience feel flat. The fizz is usually part of the fun, but this one left me feeling like I was drinking something that didn’t have enough carbonation to keep things interesting.
Another thing I didn’t like was that it wasn’t very refreshing. When I reach for a soda, I want something crisp and satisfying. Mr. Pibb didn’t deliver that thirst‑quenching feeling I look for in a cold drink. Instead, it just sat in my stomach and didn’t leave me wanting more. And with all the sugar and calories packed into a can, I definitely wouldn’t waste them on this one.
Overall, I’d rate Mr. Pibb 3 out of 5 stars. Even though its return in 2025 brought some excitement, it didn’t live up to expectations. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a great‑tasting, refreshing drink. If you’re craving a soda, there are plenty of better options out there. Maybe if you enjoy the taste of cherry cough syrup, you’ll have a different opinion, but for me, it’s a pass. I’d much rather drink its number‑one competitor, Dr Pepper!
