The newest Wings of Fire graphic novel has finally arrived. After months of waiting, Talons of Power Graphic Novel was released on December 30, 2025. Fans were excited to see if this installment would live up to the hype and excitement of the series. Warning: spoilers ahead. If you do not want the story spoiled, please do not continue reading.
The main character of this book is Turtle, a shy SeaWing animus. He hides his powers because he believes they are more harmful than helpful. Throughout the story, Turtle struggles with self doubt and tries to protect his loved ones without seeing himself as a hero.
As the story unfolds, Turtle is proven wrong and realizes that he has been a hero all along. The main villain, Darkstalker, is released from Agate Mountain after being trapped for over 2,000 years. He reveals himself as a massive NightWing and quickly becomes a powerful and dangerous presence.
If this part feels confusing, it helps to read Wings of Fire books six through eight beforehand. Nearly every dragon falls under the influence of Darkstalker’s animus magic, which makes them trust him completely. Turtle and Kinkajou are the only ones unaffected, while Anemone becomes aware later when Turtle gives her an enchanted stick that prevents Darkstalker from noticing or remembering the dragon holding it.
Darkstalker eventually becomes king of the NightWings, although some remain loyal to Queen Glory. Using his animus powers, he begins helping other dragons by healing them or granting them abilities. He also leads the NightWings back to their original kingdom to restore their tribe’s former power.
Because Turtle does not trust Darkstalker, he goes into hiding and secretly spies on him to make sure he does not do anything evil. Eventually, Turtle and his sister Anemone are discovered. Turtle is captured, and his animus powers are taken away, while Anemone manages to escape. The book also briefly explores Darkstalker’s backstory, adding more depth to his character.
I give this graphic novel five out of five stars. I loved it, and Turtle’s character development was especially strong. If you enjoy the Wings of Fire series or like fantasy stories filled with magic, danger, and complex characters, Wings of Fire Talons of Power Graphic Novel is definitely worth reading.
