The CTE wheel is something many seventh graders enjoy because it’s engaging, hands-on, and gives everyone a chance to explore different electives before deciding what to focus on later. Instead of choosing classes without really knowing what they’re like, students rotate through art, journalism, broadcasting, yearbook, band, and AVID. Each class has a different feel, and the rotation helps students discover what they truly connect with.
Art often surprises students by giving them creative freedom in ways they may not have experienced before. Journalism teaches students how to write with purpose, interview others, and tell stories that matter. Broadcasting adds excitement by letting students work with editing tools, helping them feel like part of a real media team.
Yearbook shows students how much work goes into capturing the school year. They take photos, design pages, and collaborate to create something the entire school will see. Band introduces music in a hands-on way, even for beginners, and helps students learn how to play together as a group. AVID focuses on organization, goal-setting, and building habits that help students succeed throughout middle school.
What makes the CTE wheel especially valuable is how much it helps students learn about themselves. Some discover talents they didn’t know they had, while others find interests they never expected to enjoy. By the end of the rotation, choosing electives feels less overwhelming and much more exciting because students understand what each class is really like.
Overall, the CTE wheel gives students a meaningful opportunity to explore their interests, build confidence, and make informed choices. By learning through real experiences instead of guesswork, students are better prepared to choose electives that fit their strengths and passions.
