There have been many trends all over social media. Some are harmless, while others are harmful. This particular trend can be dangerous and can cost a lot of money.
Most people have probably seen this trend on TikTok or another social media platform. The trend involves people flushing objects down school toilets until they flood. This is dangerous because flooding can spread germs and bacteria, which could make someone very sick.
If a toilet becomes clogged and overflows, it can cause serious damage to the bathroom and even the entire school. Flooding can lead to water damage, which is extremely expensive to repair. Even minor flooding, when a toilet barely overflows, can cost between $2,500 and $10,000 to fix. A moderate or major flood could cost significantly more.
If a student purposely floods a bathroom, they could face serious consequences. They could be suspended or even expelled from school. If the damage is severe, the police could become involved, and the student might have to pay a large fine. They could be charged with vandalism, which is usually a misdemeanor. However, if the damage is extensive, it could result in a felony charge.
Nathan Drennan said, “I feel bad for the janitor who has to clean up the mess.” Mr. Noonan said, “I think the trend is idiotic and it should be stopped.”
All it takes is one successful attempt for these consequences to become reality. It may seem funny at first, but it is no longer a joke when the school floods and students face serious legal trouble.
Flushing objects down toilets as part of a trend is not something students should participate in. Out of all the trends I have seen, this is one of the worst.
