Recently, I have noticed that both the track and the water fountains at our school need attention. The track is in poor condition. It does not even look like a proper track anymore. Instead, it resembles a worn walking path in a nature park. In addition, access to clean drinking water is important because our school wants to ensure students are staying healthy and hydrated.
Ms. Fernandez explained that the water fountains are currently closed because they are not filtered. The fountains themselves are not broken, but the water is not yet considered safe to drink. An email was sent out at the beginning of the school year to inform parents and students about this situation.
Ms. Fernandez also shared that she recently contacted the district’s director of maintenance to address safety concerns about the track and field. She explained that repairs could not begin earlier because Boys Flag Football season was in session.
Right now, the field is under maintenance, so repairs to the track and water fountains will have to wait. It is estimated that the field will be completed in March before Girls Flag Football season begins. Hopefully, once the field work is finished, the school will be able to focus on renovating the track.
The track will most likely be repaired during the summer, which means students may not see improvements until the next school year. While I wish the track could be repaired sooner so current students could enjoy it, that may not be possible.
Although I may not get to experience the new and improved track, I hope future students will appreciate the upgrades and benefit from a safer and better athletic space.
