Students were informed that stress toys such as Nee-Doh’s, plushies, fidgets, and even Rubik Cubes. The main question is; was it really necessary. In my opinion, the answer is yes and no.
The reason why Nee-Doh’s were banned is because Nee-Doh’s kept exploding or students would cut them open and the insides would create a mess. Honestly, I can understand why they would ban Nee-Doh’s. The students should know better than to cut them on purpose. Students would occasionally get injured from a kid tossing a Nee-Doh across the room.
As for plushies, I don’t see a lot of students bring them in. There can be different reasons to bring in plushies such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Students often bring in plushies for comfort and reassurance.
I’m surprised that the school banned fidgets considering that they sell them at the Student Store. I understand that fidgets can be distracting, especially when they are brought out during class. It would be better to use fidgets during lunch when no one is doing anything academically.
I’m shocked that Rubic Cubes are banned. I have never seen a student pull out a Rubic Cube from their backpack. Although, there could be an incident in which pieces of the Rubic Cube break. Other than that, I don’t see a problem with Rubic Cubes.
Many of these toys help with stress, anxiety, and depression. Banning them has some benefits, but it can harm the people that abosutely need them. Overall, these toys shouldn’t be banned, but they can only be used during lunch to prevent distraction.
