Imagine this, you waking up to an algorithm that has already planned your day, answered your emails, and predicted your next decision. This isn’t a distant future; it reflects a present reality where, from healthcare to finance, over half of today’s industries already rely on artificial intelligence to drive critical decisions—-and all this before you had your morning coffee.
We use AI in our lives daily and for many things that help with a lot of things like personalized content recommendations (Netflix), virtual assistants (Siri/Alexa), and autonomous vehicles. I’m going to tell you how it’s not needed.
Starting with personalized content recommendations (Netflix), AI helps with this by using machine learning algorithms to analyze vast amounts of user data. We don’t need personalized content recommendations because we can already do most of that ourselves without the help of AI. Studies show that AI just gives you similar content of what you already watched and not what you want to watch.
My second argument is that Siri/Alexa can be hacked by people and can cause lots of trouble for others. Also it can also do things like answer something to a question that you didn’t ask it when no one asked them a question in the first place. It can leak private information about people or yourself to the internet or to other people you know nothing about, and they can spread that private information to other people and so on.
My third and final argument is that WAYMO’s can be dangerous. Articles confirmed that people who hack WAYMOS cause gridlock, which causes them to abruptly stop. Other dangers like crashes and accidents of a WAYMO make people cautious and hesitant in riding one. Because of this people prefer UBERS and taxis.
Counteraugment- Some might argue that AI is helpful because Netflix can recommend similar content, their usefulness makes it easier to answer questions, and the access to WAYMO’s make it easier for people to get around for those who don’t have a car or anything to use to get around from place to place.
Conclusion- In conclusion AI is dangerous because it can answer your questions without being talked to, it can be used to leak information about you, and can take you to the wrong places, but it can also be useful in other ways as well.
