Dodgers vs. Yankees World Series
This is the World Series Finals, with the Yankees facing off against the Dodgers. Who is going to win? In this essay, I will talk about who won the World Series, key highlights, and all the notable moments from the games.
Which Team Do People Like More?
I went around the school asking people if they liked the Yankees more or the Dodgers. I voted for the Yankees, but while many people voted for the Yankees, more people voted for the Dodgers. Which team do you like more?
Game One
Stanton hits a long shot deep into the outfield, giving the Yankees the lead in Game 1 of the World Series. Shohei Ohtani gets a hit that goes deep into center field, bounces off the wall, and Shohei advances to second. The throw is off-target, so Shohei makes it to third. Mookie Betts hits one to center, but Aaron Judge makes the catch. Gleyber Torres hits a fly ball to left-center field, and it’s gone! But a fan interferes, and Torres is ruled out at second base. Shohei hits a fly ball to foul territory, and Verdugo runs over to make the catch, even falling over the wall in the process. Freddie Freeman hits one to right field, and it’s gone! The Dodgers win Game 1 of the World Series.
Game Two
Tommy Edman got the scoring started with a homer in the second inning. In the third, Teoscar Hernández and Freddie Freeman hit back-to-back home runs, marking the second set of back-to-back home runs in Dodgers World Series history. Freeman became the 11th player to homer in both Games 1 and 2 of the same World Series, the first since David Ortiz in 2013. Freeman has now homered in four consecutive World Series games, dating back to 2021 with the Braves, which ties for the second-longest streak in World Series history, behind only George Springer. Yamamoto delivered the 11th start in World Series history of at least six innings with one or no hits allowed, and the first by a rookie. The Dodgers win 4-2 in Game 2.
Game Three
Freddie Freeman was once again the hero for the Dodgers, blasting a two-run home run in the first inning. The Dodgers also got five scoreless innings from starter Walker Buehler, and the bullpen kept the Yankees in check until Alex Verdugo hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth. The Dodgers win 4-2 in Game 3.
Game Four
The Dodgers had a chance to win their eighth championship in franchise history with a victory against the Yankees in Game 4. However, Anthony Volpe delivered the biggest hit of the series for the Yankees: a grand slam that erased the Dodgers’ lead, which was built on Freddie Freeman’s home run in a record-setting sixth straight World Series game. Volpe’s grand slam set the tone for the Yankees, who also got home runs from Austin Wells and Gleyber Torres. The Yankees piled on with a five-run eighth inning to earn an 11-4 win and avoid a sweep.
Game Five
In Game 5, the Dodgers were down by five runs and facing Yankees ace Gerrit Cole. But the Dodgers mounted an impressive rally in the fifth inning to tie the game. They added two more runs in the eighth to take the lead for good. The Dodgers held on, even as their bullpen was stretched thin. The Dodgers win Game 5 of the World Series.
Dodgers Win It All
Almost everyone at school voted for the Dodgers, and they were right! The Dodgers won it all. They took the first three games, nearly shutting out the Yankees, but the Yankees made a strong comeback. In the end, the Dodgers clinched the championship in Game 5, winning the World Series.
